Bullying

Adolescents face this a lot nowadays - Bullying. Bullying is unwanted aggressive behaviour towards a student or person. There can be multiple bullies against one poor student. There can be an audience that encourages the  bully to keep going. There could be a person that stands up for the victim and finally there could be an outsider who has got nothing to do with the situation and does not take any sides. Bullying can include verbally abusing the person or physically abusing a person. They can verbally swear, use put downs, and make a joke of them. They can also physically push, punch, kick or shove a person around. Bullying can cause social and emotional problems for a victim, physical injuries, anxiety depression and even death.

To stop bullying one can:

  1. Learn how to physically or mentally protect themselves - learning self defence is a could way, or walking a way from a tense situation.
  2. Tell a parent or teacher about the situation - The problem mostly is that the victim getting bullied keeps their mouth shut! Speak out so people know what is happening.
  3. Engage in physical activity - This ill keep your mind off what is happening at, you can also meet new people and make new friends!

These tips should help you greatly to cope with bullying!

Depression

Depression is another aspect during adolescence. Depression makes people feel intensely sad and despondent. It can also lead to self harm,violence, abuse, consumption of alcohol, consumption of drugs, smoking and even death! 

To stop depression here are some few tips:

  1. Talk to family members - they can certainly help you stop cope with your depression and help you find ways to stop it.
  2. Do a physical activity - This can keep your mind of your depression and also helps you to work with others and meet new people.
  3. Set goals and build up to them - This can help you to recover from depression and be your normal self again.

With these tips you should be able to cope with depression!


Peer Pressure

Peer Pressure is another important issue during adolescence. Peer pressure is when you get influenced by members of a group or people you know. Peer pressure can lead you to do things you may not want to do. Peer Pressure during the adolescence stage mainly the prospects of drugs,smoking,alcohol and sexual activity. As many know these are very serious issues and should be optionally done when older. However due to peer pressure many adolescents participate activities, usually getting them into serious situations such as jail or death. 

Some tips to cope with peer pressure are:


  1. Firmly tell them 'No' - This usually indicates to them that you are not interested. If they persist repeat No!
  2. Do not try to follow others - if you can see that what they do is not appropriate they aren't being a good role model, then stop following them, stop imitating what they do.
  3. Consider all the factors when you do something. - Weigh up the possibilities of getting caught and not getting caught. If the unsafe possibilities out weigh the safe possibilities, then do not attempt it.

These tips will certainly help you cope with peer pressure!

Relationships!

Relationships are a big issue during adolescence. A person can have a very close relationship such as a best friend or even girlfriend/boyfriend or they can have a not so close relationship such as a school or classmate. It is a dangerous issue as one wrong move can start conflict or even tear a friendship apart. Relationships can affect a persons feelings. For example the feelings a person goes through after getting rejected or dumped can lead to serious issues such as self harm or even death. It can also cloud the focus adolescents have on education. which is very important. 

Some tips on managing relationships are:

  1. Make sure that you are prioritize what is important and what is not. - It is very important to focus on education as well as relationships. neglecting either of them can lead to problems in the future.
  2. Manage you relationships from your closest to you not so closest one. - You have to realize who is your true friend and who isn't as it can lead to problems if you don't.
  3. Do not try to hurt other people's feeling in the process of having relationships. - Make sure everyone is happy and do not make people feel neglected or sad.

These tips on relationships will sure help you to manage them properly!

Self Esteem!

So, what is self esteem you say? Well, self esteem is confidence in one’s own worth or abilities, thoughts and feelings are based on experiences or life. When going through adolescence, one's self esteem can vary greatly either going from high self esteem week or a very low self esteem week. So you might be thinking, well why does it matter. Actually it matters greatly, we act in way based on our self esteem. For example, if someone has very low self esteem, they might have their shoulder's drooped, walking slowly, their face show no sign of happiness. Whereas, a person with high self esteem might have a confident stride, shoulders up and very conversational towards other and having the ability to be happy!

Some tips for improving self esteem are:

  1. Try to stop thinking negative thoughts about yourself - you have to remember that no one is perfect and everyone has flaws. don't let them affect the way you feel.
  2. View mistakes as learning opportunities - Ever heard of 'learn form your mistakes? Well, its true you learn more from you mistakes than you successes and don't feel that mistakes are bad things that show the flaws in you, they are thing that you still need to learn form.
  3.  Try new things - Try to go for new things, try to put yourself out of your comfort zone. These things will certainly improve your self esteem.

With these tips you will certainly learn to boost your self esteem!

Body Image!

    Many Adolescents are really concerned about their body image nowadays. But first, you need to know a little bit about what body image is. Body Image is the image that you make in your head of how you look like compared to another 'ideal' body through the influence of social media and society. There are also several aspects of body image:


1.     How people see their bodies is called Perceptual body image
an incorrect representation of how your body actually looks.

2.     The way you feel about your body is called affective body 
image- This meaning the satisfaction/dissatisfaction with the feeling about your body.

3.     How you think about your body is called cognitive body
 image- People believing what their body shape and weight should be like.

4.     Behaviours caused by body image are 
called behavioural body image- When someone feels bad about their body and will isolate themselves because they don’t like their appearance.

    Solutions!
    Some solutions to stopping people thinking about their body image are:
  1. Avoid Negative Talk - Don't let anyone make you feel bad about the way you look! You are unique and no one can be like you!
  2. Learn to accept your body - If you try to change how you are and the way you look it could go horribly wrong! Remember the grass is not always greener on the other side.
  3. Avoid comparing yourself to others - Remind yourself that you are unique and no one is 'better' than you in that way.

With these tips you should be able to avoid being concerned over your body image!
